The 3.3L Duratec, otherwise known as the Duratec 33, is an engine that's known for powering up big vehicles of Ford such as full-sized pickup trucks and SUVs. It is something you can trust when it comes to daily drives or heavy-duty tasks because of its performance, reliability, fuel economy, and durability.
The original development of the Ford 2 liter Duratec engine was done by Olsberg MSE or OMSE. OMSE has successfully campaigned the engine in Rallycrosss and a more restricted version of the powerplant in WRC Rally for several years. Ultimately, the engine had long term durability issues and not the greatest race reliability.
The duratec line of ford/Mazda engines are extremely reliable. The 2.0 was slow but extremely reliable. Got one with over 215k on it with minimal maintenance. The 2.3 was a little sportier but has issues throwing rods and was eventually phased out. I hit 202k on a 2.3 before the rings went in cylinder 3. The 2.3 was swapped for a 2.5.
The Duratec 37's additional displacement over the Duratec 35 is achieved through a 3 mm increase in bore diameter which results in a 95.5 mm (3.76 in) bore. The engine began production in the 2008 Maxda CX-9 under Mazda's MZI moniker and produces 273 hp (204 kW) at 6,250 rpm and 270 lb·ft (366 N·m) at 4,250 rpm.
The Duratec engine is a very reliable engine and is also well designed. I beleive the first year the Taurus received the 3.0L Duratec was in 1996. Mac2 has the duratec 2.3the OP has the Lima 2.3, both engiens are very good the Lima 2.3 is a very dependable engine. I would bring up all the maintenance and change all the fluids, oil, coolant, etc, only use Auto lite or Motorcraft plugs. Change the Fuel Filter ASAP.(this will help prolong the life of the fuel pump.
3. Ignition And Spark Plugs Defect. The Ford 3.5L Ecoboost engine problems also manifest themselves in a defect in the ignition system and spark plugs. You’re most likely to have this issue if your vehicle is powered by a direct fuel injection system.
3.5 V6 reliability. Hey everyone, I'm going to look at my first truck tomorrow, a 2016 F150 with the 3.5L V6 naturally aspirated (not the Ecoboost). I havent heard much about this engine.
